Annenberg Hall

To give you an idea of just how much I am exercising, I eat an all-you-can-eat buffet morning noon and night, seven days per week, and I am losing weight. Yesterday I was supposed to do chores, but I decided to play basketball until the gym shut down instead. Then, I got up six hours later and went back to do an indoor cycling class at 7am before breakfast.

I am fortunate enough to be eating my meals at Annenberg Hall, the most magnificent space at Harvard. This room is considered sacred, and is normally only seen by freshman and the support staff. Outside of special events, no one else is allowed in. No other students, no faculty, no tourists. The one exception to this is that anyone who is in residency during the summer is allowed to eat here, and fortunately that includes me.

While the food isn't all that great, you hardly notice because you're sitting in a 9,000 square foot hall with stenciled ceilings. The top of the entire room is surrounded by stained glass depicting secular intellectuals, including philosophers, scientists, and war heroes. While I eat my bagel, I am also surrounded by 20 busts, three reliefs, and two full statues. There are also about 25 paintings covering the Civil War, as Annenberg is a memorial to Harvard students who lost their lives fighting for the preservation of the Union.

Not a bad way to start your morning, I say. Beats Luby's.

Guess what? I have been inside it! When I visited Harvard during a trip for an audit, it was freshman weekend (freshman arriving for the fall). I got to go inside of it and sat at a table for at least an hour, in awe. I even had cake and punch. It's beauty is beyond words.

Love you,
MOM

The sad thing is I eat there every day and I'm now tired of it. I don't know how I'm going to survive the rest of my freshman freshman year :/
