The Masai

Today we headed out on Safari, and we kicked it off by doing something I've wanted to do since I was 10 -- we headed to a Masai Village. Masai warriors have intrigued me ever since I heard stories about young Masai boys running up and slapping lions as a test of courage. It was quite an experience. No one was wearing their huge ear disks, but I got to go inside one of their huts (made out of cow dung). The men typically have five or six wives and don't seem to do much of anything because they are "warriors" which is a pretty sweet job to have during decades of peace.
When a man leaves his home for days at a time or more, any other man in the village can put his spear in the door, enter his home, and have his wives until he gets back. The Masai have held on to their culture more than almost any other group in the world.
